Feed the Streets 2007

As a part of its community outreach objective, this year NASR has partnered up with the International Muslims Organization of Toronto (IMO), for their Feed-The-Streets program.

On the last Sunday of key months throughout the year, members of NASR will meet at the IMO at 11 AM, where we will pick up the 250 homemade meals that IMO has prepared, pack them into every crevice of our cars, drive into the heart of downtown Toronto, and hand deliver the meals to the less fortunate members of our community, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

Areas of reach include: Regent Park, Moss Park, the Salvation Army – Gateway branch and Men`s Hostel branch as well as several parks in the East Core and the Yonge and Dundas area.

How is this all organized? We park our cars in a visible area, pop the trunk and start the handout. In less than two minutes, the crowds start to come in and freely reach right into the trunk and help themselves to one of the meals. It takes no longer than 15 minutes for all the food to clear.

Unfortunately, a few in need still come by, only to be turned away empty handed. This sad reality certainly highlights just how much help is needed. It is an unfortunate reality that NASR and the IMO take heed of and do their best to aid in the situation as much as possible.
