Imam Zaid – Making of a Martyr Tour
The tour was an unqualified success. For three days (Friday May 18 – Sunday May 20), Imam Zaid tackled the difficult and important topic of what is real martyrdom in Islam? What makes a martyr? What does Jihad mean? His tour included the following cities: St. Catharines, London, Cambridge, Etobicoke, Burlington, and Hamilton.
These topics included:
- “Cultural Jihad: The Struggle for our youth” – He presented this topic at the London Islamic School.
- “Executing Excellence: The Prophet’s Ethical Standard” – A riveting discussion on the beloved of Allah, may peace be upon him.
- “Making of a Martyr” – This was the keynote address at IMO. Over 800 people attended the event.
- “The importance of the Environment” – Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the tour was the hike at Webster’s Falls with Imam Zaid. Hundreds of youth hiked through the woods in one of the most picturesque parks in Hamilton.
- “The Struggle Against Hate” – After a high-profile anti-Muslim vandalism incident at McMaster University, Imam Zaid spoke on a public panel with a local Rabbi and a professor.
Some of the highlights of the tour included:
- a young man embraced Islam after the Friday khutbah in St. Catharines
- thousands of people attend the various events of the tour
- NASR partnered up and collaborated with the Settlement and Integration Services Organization, the Hamilton Jewish Federation, the Islamic Society of St. Catharines, the London Islamic School, the Cambridge Mosque, IMO, the Halton Mosque, the Muslim Association of Hamilton and the Muslim, Jewish and Arab Dialogue Committee of Hamilton;
- Many people put up dozens of pictures of the hike and other events on their personal facebook and myspace sites
- NASR put a high premium on ensuring that Imam Zaid was accessible to all the attendees and anyone else who wanted to meet him.
